This is a letter we received during September 2007 from Post 180 in Highland, Indiana. It was addressed to Jim Tolar, Commander, American Legion Post 119 Gulfport, Mississippi.

Dear Commander Tolar: Enclosed is a check in the amount of $100 from Highland Memorial Post 180. The Post had a jar in the clubroom collecting money for Katrina relief, and finally decided it was time to donate it. Having read the article about your Post in the September American Legion Magazine, we decided to donate the money to Post 119. We know the amount is not large, but a little something to help.

Signed: Sincerely, Danny Cole Commander and Mike Marlow Adjutant

Beginning May 1st, all of our public attended functions in the Hall will be Non-Smoking events. This is due to the City of Gulfport's new No Smoking Ordinance. That includes our Bingo and Dance's. The Lounge will be a Smoking Permitted Lounge, so Members will be able to go into the Lounge to smoke but non-members must go outside and 20 feet away from any entrance or exit doors to smoke. No smoking will be allowed in the Restrooms also. If a non-member is caught smoking in the Hall or restroom, they will be politely asked to leave! Non-members will be allowed to enter the Lounge to purchase a drink and then leave, but they cannot light a cigarette white waiting to be served!
Due to this Ordinance, Key Cards will also go into effect on May 1st. If you do not have one, stop by the Post or Elks office and get one, but you must have your 2008 Membership Card to get one. 2007 Cards are no longer valid!

Our $10 Steak and Dance Night this month will be on Saturday, May 10th beginning at 6:30 pm. The band is The Ugly Bunch' and they are great' Hope to see you there!

The May 12th General Membership Meeting this month will include Nominations for the 2008 - 2009 Officers and Executive Committee. Before you nominate or accept a nomination be sure you know the responsibilities of the Office. In June we will reopen nominations then vote for our new Officers and Executive Committee.

We need another "Caller" for Bingo! They must be able to commit to being at Bingo every Wednesday and Friday evenings. Contact me immediately if you are interested!

If you are interested, but cannot attend, call me at the Legion Office and let me know.
